Select with evidence

Viscosity is important—but it is not the whole specification.

An engine oil must be evaluated against the engine manufacturer’s required viscosity and performance level, the engine design, fuel, age, operating temperature, duty cycle and maintenance practice. A familiar viscosity grade alone does not establish suitability.

LubeMax products do not currently carry API approval, licensing or certification. Any API, OEM or industry reference describes equivalent performance to the stated requirement unless the current product TDS expressly identifies a formal approval.

No. Confirm the required performance level, engine design, fuel, emissions system, duty cycle and operating temperature.

What do CH-4 and CI-4 mean on LubeMax product names?

They identify equivalent API performance references. They do not mean that the products are API approved, licensed or certified.

Can a 20W-50 oil replace a 15W-40 oil?

Not by assumption. Use the viscosity and performance requirement stated for the engine and operating conditions.

Can I extend the oil-drain interval?

Only when supported by the equipment manufacturer’s guidance, operating conditions, maintenance controls and appropriate condition evidence.

What information should a fleet provide?

Provide engine models, fuel, current oil, required viscosity and specification, duty cycle, drain practice and any operating concern.

Are LubeMax engine oils API approved?

No. LubeMax products do not currently carry API approval, licensing or certification; references describe equivalent performance.

Where can I obtain the current TDS and SDS?

Request the exact product and grade through the LubeMax Technical Resources centre.

Do LubeMax engine oils have SON approval?

All LubeMax products have SON approvals except where the current TDS clearly states “Pending approval.”
